Automotive Mechanic
The State of New Hampshire, Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation, has a full-time vacancy for a mechanic, located at Cannon Mountain, Franconia, New Hampshire. Schedules and performs skilled mechanical work in order to maintain and repair automotive and related mechanical equipment used at northern location parks in accordance with all applicable safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and repairs automobiles, trucks, tractors, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, chainsaws, lawnmowers, and other mechanical equipment.
- Conducts complete unit replacement of engines, transmissions, differentials, power dividers and all related components of mechanical equipment necessary to operate Cannon Mountain/Franconia Notch State Park.
- Performs welding of all types in repair and fabrication of new systems and units using proper personal protective equipment (PPEs) and in accordance with all safety standards.
- Organizes, cleans, and maintains work area; orders parts, organizes storage and parts rooms and cleans area for safety.
- Keeps all records of work done on vehicles and records parts used and ordered.
- Performs vehicle state inspections and makes all necessary repairs to meet inspection standards.
- Establishes programs for preventative maintenance for motorized equipment and performs duties to adhere to planned schedule.
- Uses computerized test equipment to identify and diagnose electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
- Operates all types of mountain equipment as needed in order to move equipment from location to location to make repairs and to verify that the repairs were effective.

WINTER 2024/2025 POSITIONS
Cannon Mountain is looking for motivated, hardworking individuals who want to spend their winter working in the ski industry. We have full-time and part-time positions available for Snowmakers, Lift Attendants, Ski Instructors, Retail Clerk, Guest Services Clerk, Parking Crew, Snow Removal and Grounds Crew, Terrain Park Crew, Custodial, Food and Beverage and a part-time Snow Reporter

Ski Lift Attendant: Operate ski lift machinery safely and efficiently. Assist guests with loading and unloading from the ski lift. Provide exceptional customer service to guests using the ski lift. Participate in events management activities as needed. Engage with children and provide a welcoming environment.
Schedule: 8-10/hr day shift. Weekends as needed.
Snowmaker: Prepares and operates tower guns, fan guns and portable snow guns. Transports fan guns, portable snow guns and hoses to locations on mountain. Operates simple hand tools and equipment. Checks quality of product and makes adjustments of guns to ensure operating efficiency. Repairs and/or replaces damaged air and water hydrants. Loads and unloads equipment, materials and supplies from a variety of vehicles around the mountain. Monitors conditions in Junction Houses and inspects for deadhead drains, ensuring that water lines do not freeze. Operates snow machines and ski lifts for personnel and equipment transfers.
Schedule: 8-10/hr, day or night shift. Weekends as needed.
Second Shift Differential: $1.20/hr on top of base rate.
Third Shift Differential: $1.50/hr on top of base rate.
Part-Time Snow Reporter/ Marketing Assistant: Snow Reporters are responsible for gathering operational and weather-related information to accurately keep the Cannon Mountain snow reports updated on both the website and external sites. The snow reporters must have excellent writing and communication skills. Canidates with photography and video editing skills are preferred, they will be asked to assist in content curation for our social media channels and website. Snow reporters should be a strong intermediate skier or snowboarder at a minimum, they will be asked to participate in on-hill photoshoots. They will assist with on-hill events, various other marketing duties and may be called to assists other departments as necessary. Early mornings are a must with a 6:00am start time.
Schedule: 8+/hr Day shift. Tuesday - Thursday and most Saturdays 30+/- hours a week.
Pumphouse Operator: Monitor water and air flow to ensure safe operation of water pumps and compressors in the pumphouse. Monitor capacities of water and air to for proper flow and efficiencies. Basic math skills needed. Checks quality of product and makes adjustments of guns to ensure operating efficiency. May need to operate large equipment - training will be provided. Repairs and/or replaces damaged air and water hydrants. Loads and unloads equipment, materials and supplies from a variety of vehicles around the mountain. Monitors conditions in Junction Houses and inspects for deadhead drains, ensuring that water lines do not freeze. Operates snow machines and ski lifts for personnel and equipment transfers
Schedule: 8/hr, night shift. Weekends as needed.
Third Shift Differential: $1.50/hr on top of base rate
Ski Patrol: Ski Patrol is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our guests while on the slopes. The successful candidate will provide emergency medical assistance, operate rescue equipment, and maintain the integrity of the ski area.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Respond to emergency situations on the slopes, including accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
- Provide first aid as necessary.
- Operate rescue equipment, such as toboggans and ropes, to transport injured guests to medical facilities.
- Conduct thorough examinations of injured guests to determine the extent of their injuries.
- Work closely with Cannon Mountain management to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the ski patrol facilities.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills to lead the ski patrol team.
- Communicate effectively with guests, staff, and medical professionals.
- Maintain a high level of situational awareness and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
Qualifications:
- Current certification in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic.
- Current certification in CPR/AED.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.
- Familiarity with rescue equipment and techniques.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Physical stamina to perform duties in a high-stress environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Schedule: 8/hr day shift. Weekends as needed.
Custodial: Performs custodial tasks such as general cleaning and sanitization of building areas, washing windows, cleaning floors, changing light bulbs, and emptying waste receptacles. Conducts security tours to include the checking and locking gates, windows and doors in order to provide area security; may also check heating equipment including boilers, furnaces, and compressors. Operates and performs routine maintenance on equipment such as floor buffers, carpet cleaners, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners and floor maintenance machines. Performs outdoor tasks such as mowing and trimming grass and shoveling snow to maintain appearance and safety standards within an area complex. Moves furniture and equipment to render building areas ready for custodial work.
Schedule: 8/hr day, afternoon or night shift. Weekends required.
Second Shift Differential: $1.20/hr on top of base rate.
AM Snow Removal/ Parking Attendant: Shovel and clear snow from ticket area, doorways, walkways, decks and other high traffic zones to ensure safe and accessible areas for our guests. Assists with parking and traffic directions in the Cannon Mountain parking lots. Snow Removal/ Parking Attendants must be able to work early morning hours and weekends. The must have strong physical stamina to perform shoveling and snow removal tasks in various winter weather conditions. They should have strong customer service skills and a positive attitude. Previous experience in this role is a plus, but not required.
Schedule: up to 8/hr, morning shift. Weekends required
Ski & Snowboard Instructor: We are seeking enthusiastic and skilled Ski Instructors to join our dynamic team. As a Ski Instructor, you will play a vital role in teaching skiing techniques to individuals of all ages and skill levels, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience on the slopes. Your passion for skiing, combined with your ability to connect with students, will help foster a love for the sport and promote confidence among learners.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality instruction in skiing techniques to students of varying abilities, from beginners to advanced skiers.
- Develop personalized lesson plans that cater to individual student needs and learning styles.
- Ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing safety guidelines and conducting risk assessments on the slopes.
- Demonstrate skiing techniques effectively while providing constructive feedback to enhance student performance.
- Manage group dynamics and behavior during lessons, ensuring a positive learning environment.
- Assist with equipment setup and maintenance, including ski gear checks before lessons.
- Engage with students and parents to build rapport and encourage ongoing participation in ski programs.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to continuously improve instructional skills and stay updated on best practices.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in teaching or coaching skiing is preferred but not mandatory; a strong passion for skiing is essential.
- Skills in behavior management to effectively handle diverse student groups.
- Experience working with children or students in any capacity (e.g., childcare, health club, martial arts) is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays during peak seasons.
- A commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all participants.
Schedule: 8/hr Day Shift. Mid-Week and Weekends
Snowplow Driver: Operate snowplow equipment to clear snow and ice from roads, parking lots, and sidewalks. Follow designated routes and schedules to ensure timely and efficient snow removal. Monitor weather conditions and adjust plowing techniques as necessary. Perform routine maintenance on snowplow equipment to ensure proper functioning. Keep accurate records of work performed, including hours worked and areas cleared. Communicate with supervisors and team members to coordinate snow removal efforts.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating snowplow equipment is preferred
- Familiarity with power tools and equipment used in lawn care, tree trimming, and hardscape construction is a plus
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including cold temperatures and heavy snowfall
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately
- Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines and complete assigned tasks efficiently
